In honor of Black History Month, I want to highlight an incredible black-owned business that celebrates the richness of African culture: 54 Thrones. Their tagline, "Romanticizing African Beauty," speaks to the heart of what they do—bringing the beauty of Africa to the forefront through luxurious skincare products.
About 54 Thrones:
Founded by a passionate entrepreneur, Christina Tegbe, 54 Thrones sources its ingredients from various African countries, ensuring that each product tells a story and supports local communities. The commitment to quality and authenticity is evident in every item they create.
My Experience with 54 Thrones:
I recently had the pleasure of trying three of their body butters and two soaps, and I can't express how much I love them! Each product is crafted with care, using natural ingredients that nourish the skin. Here’s a closer look at what I purchased:
1. Body Butters:
Barrier Repair Cloud Cream: A fast-absorbing, ultra-hydrating, non-greasy body cream great for daily use on all skin types. Rapidly hydrates and protects skin barrier. Made with their Triple Barrier Repair Complex - Peptides to moisturize and strengthen your skin barrier, South African Resurrection Plant extract to rapidly increase hydration and a special form of hyaluronic acid to retain moisture.
I selected the Kenyan Hibiscus + Moroccan Rose. As described on their website, the
Sweet and exotic Kenyan Hibiscus pairs with alluring baskets of roses hand-picked from Morocco's' M'Goun Valley of Roses to create a powdery Rose aroma with ripe pear and faint spicy undertones. Sweet rose notes complement the soft aroma of Kenyan Hibiscus.
Why you will love it: You'll love the Barrier Repair Cloud Cream for its lightweight, soothing formula that strengthens your skin barrier and hydrates your skin, leaving it soft, supple, and protected. To put it bluntly, the fragrance is absolutely divine and is my favorite out the bunch!!

Next is the African Beauty Butter: Intensive Dry Skin Treatment: Off of Oprah's Favorite Things List, this thick, rich, concentrated daily moisturizer can be used all over your body or to spot-treat chronic dry areas like feet, hands, elbows and knees. Made with two types of rich African Shea butter from Ghana and Shea Nilotica from Uganda they combine to instantly moisturize dry skin and leave you glowing.

2. Soaps:
The Adwera: Tumeric Glow Bar: Cleanse, moisturize, and glow with the Adwera Turmeric Glow Bar. Named after the Ghanaian Adinkra symbol for purity, cleanliness, and good fortune, this bar harnesses the power of turmeric. Known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, turmeric adds glow and luster to your skin.
The Glow Bar alleviates dry skin, promotes an even skin tone, and protects skin cells from damage. Infused with earthy notes of rosemary and lavender, this bar is a must-have in your beauty routine.
Why you will love it: Gentle yet powerful, great for dull skin. Antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components bring out skin's glow. Helps even out skin tone, and may also help reduce the appearance of acne scars. Contains Curcumin; which has the capacity to decrease UV damage since it’s a natural antioxidant. The products are ALWAYS: Paraben-Free, Cruelty-Free, GMO-free, Sulfate-Free and Toxin Free.
Alata Samina: Black Soap Detox Bar: The Alata Samina Black Soap Detox Bar is 100% pure and handmade from natural ingredients in Ghana. It's been made this way for generations, back when the Yoruba pepper sellers began selling it in Ghana. Plantain skins are largely what make this black soap so effective. They are a natural source of vitamins A & E and iron. The Black Soap easily cleanses away oil, makeup, dirt, and leaves a fresh glow.
Why you will love it: You'll love our Black Soap Detox Bar for its deep-cleansing properties that purify and balance your skin, leaving it clear, smooth, and refreshed.

Conclusion:
Using 54 Thrones products has been a delightful experience and addition to my self care routine, and I appreciate the brand's commitment to celebrating African beauty and culture. This Black History Month (and beyond), I encourage you to explore and support black-owned businesses like 54 Thrones. Not only will you indulge in luxurious skincare, but you will also be part of a movement that uplifts African heritage.
